The re-foundation of the nation by the real Peru. People, struggle and new consciousness in the process of popular power building in the Andes

After the most recent defeat of Keiko Fujimori in the 2021 presidential elections, the Fujimorism systematically tried to vacate the elected president Pedro Castillo from the National Assembly (Congreso de la República). On December 7, 2022, having coopted months before the then Vice President Dina Boluarte, the Fujimorism-controlled Congress used a public statement made by Pedro Castillo to justify his capture and imprisonment by the National Command of the Armed Forces (Comando Conjunto de las Fuerzas Armadas), accusing him of treason to the nation. Thus, Dina Boluarte assumed the façade of the current coup government of the Fujimontesinism mafia (fujimontesinismo), which to stay in power assassinated by bullet shots more than 40 peasants and young people who mobilized massively against the absolute control of the Peruvian state exercised by the criminal mafia led by Vladimiro Montesinos, Alberto Fujimori and Keiko Fujimori from prison.

These authors behind the coup against the fragile democracy and the rule of law in Peru, have already been sentenced for crimes of mega-corruption and human rights violations, some of them even under international law. However, the institutional legacy of ten years of dictatorship has allowed them to move threads from prison that cross the entire state apparatus, from the Constitutional Court, the National Assembly (Congreso de la República), the Judiciary, the Armed Forces and National Police, and -again- after December 7 of the past year, the entire central government. The current dictatorship exercised by the Fujimorism through the illegal and illegitimate presidency of Dina Boluarte is sustained based on state violence facilitated by the military and police commanders trained and promoted during Fujimori’s government, as well as on the racism spread by the monopoly of the media, television, radio and written press that endorsed and defended the authoritarian regime of Fujimori from 1990 to 2000 and continue to do so today. Misinforming international public opinion and unfairly accusing those who are being murdered in the streets as «terrorists», when in fact the courageous response of grassroots social organizations of the real Peru is a clear demonstration of their faith in the democratic promise.

The massive and growing response of the grassroots social organizations of the real Peru, rural, peasant, worker, indigenous, cholo, poor, in the face of the systematic murders carried out by the repressive apparatus of the Fujimontesinism mafia, has a completely human explanation. We cannot remain indifferent to the murder of a brother, a neighbor, a friend, a compeer, we cannot just let them kill our people’s sons, beat our mothers to the ground, and shoot the skulls of our fathers and brothers. For a long time, we have endured the abuse of authority, we have been absurdly silencing our protest, and we have been kept backing our own struggle. But the time came when we could no longer remain silent, when the brutality with which they snatch our wealth, the racism with which they despise us, the evil with which they take advantage of us, ceased to have a demobilizing, fragmenting and depoliticizing effect. All that state violence that the elites of Lima and the oligarchy have systematically exercised from their control of the political system, the state, and the law, has exposed their corporate fascism, of which the Fujimorism is its purest expression.

Pedro Castillo is a political prisoner among hundreds of others in Peru who currently have no rights, no constitutional guarantee, and no defense other than the one exercised by the struggle held by the families of the Peruvian people in the streets. Those who without anything more than their bodies, sticks, stones, and improvised shields, are facing directly the shots fired by the army and police forces ordered by the dictatorship in fact ruled by the Fujimontesinism criminal organization. The massive mobilizations carried out since December 7, 2022, are not intended to return Pedro Castillo to the presidency, but to recover the country and the hope of a truly democratic future for the Peruvian people. When the Peruvian people, are no longer an abstract category of interpretation, nor a legal fiction, but a common living body of flesh and bones, with features shaped by a history of racist abuse and exploitation, awake and determined to change their future. This heroic struggle of the Peruvian people is the founding event of the nation in Peru, an unprecedented, incomparable historical moment; in the eyes of the oligarchic republic, of the Lima elites, completely incomprehensible.

The people of the whole world observe with dismay the admirable sacrifice and supreme value of the true struggle, the one which gives one’s life for people’s lives, an ethic that can only be learned through self-experience. A new consciousness manifests itself and advances without waiting for a leader, party, or ideology, making its way through the only way of life it knows: the struggle for life. Far from the selfishness that this system of death impregnates us, a new ethic of life flourishes, an ethic of true humanity, which no longer allows us to leave others behind and advance above. This new consciousness has awakened in the Peruvian people, an immense solidarity advances to the re-foundation of the nation, to historical recognition, and not only to the change of constitution, government or authorities. People in the world are awakening, the real Peru has awakened.
